Proposed Candidates Chart

This hand-written chart and following "List of Proposed Candidates," presumably made by Mary Visser, details proposed women with whom she planned on communicating about inclusion the exhibit. The list displays Visser's desire for the direction of the exhibit. She clearly outlines the want for a wide variety of professional backgrounds by making catagories. The presence of Latinas in a variety of professions is important because it breaks stereotypes and also empowers similar women to do the same. The different professions help to open up the identity of Latina women and show that they can be and are involved in multiple interests in their communities. Although their professions are different, many of the exhibit subjects demonstrate a dedication to social justice, especially in their local communities. Further research on these women in the following exhibit pages gives insight into how their histories created this passion for justice.

At the bottom of each page of the exhibit that follows, you'll find the original portrait and portrait description of the Latina photography subject, as they appeared in the 1992 photography exhibition.  You can see a complete digital representation of the physical photography exhibit here.
