Portraits of Mujeres: Subjects in the "Rostros y Almas/Faces and Souls" Photography Exhibit by Mary Jessie Garza
Description
This 1992 photography exhibit of influential Central Texas Latinas was co-curated by Professor Mary Visser (Fine Arts, Southwestern University) and Lupita Berrera Bryant. Mary Jessie Garza, San Antonio photographer, was commissioned by Southwestern to take the photographs, which uncover the identities and honor the impact of these women on their communities. The exhibit was planned to coincide with the 1992 Southwestern University Brown Symposium, which brought together speakers on the theme "Discoveries of America." The exhibit ran from January 8 to February 6, 1992 in the Alma Thomas Fine Arts Gallery. It remains on display on the second floor of the Olin Building at Southwestern University.
